Spending time
outdoors is a top priority in summer, but so is avoiding the heat and damaging effects
from the sun! Here are our top tips for staying cool and protecting your skin when
outdoors.
How
To Stay Cool
1. Drink plenty of water and stay
hydrated.
2. Immerse yourself in the water at a pool
or beach.
3. Find shade and hope for a nice
breeze.
5. If you don’t have air conditioning,
head to your local mall. Not only will you find hot summer sales, but you can also relax
and have a cold drink in the food court.
6. Make homemade popsicles, sit back,
and chillax.
7. Use a hydrating mist to refresh
thirsty, parched skin. DERMA-E Hydrating Mist is a refreshing mist
that gives your skin an instant burst of hydration any time you need it. Its
cooling mist is enriched with plant botanicals and nutrients that deliver
intense moisture and powerful antioxidants to your face, neck or skin.
8. Limit exercise and strenuous
physical activity too early or late evening hours.
9. Wear loose-fitting, lightweight cotton clothing.
How
To Protect Your Skin from the Sun
1. Sunscreen should be applied daily. The
daily use of a good broad-spectrum, low-SPF sunscreen (15) has been shown to be
effective in preventing skin damage. If
you will be outdoors, use a higher SPF sunscreen and reapply often. Exposure to
ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB from sunlight accounts for 90% of the symptoms of
premature skin aging such as wrinkles and skin cancers.
I’m loving DERMA-E Ultra Sheer Mineral Body Sunscreen Mist with its broad- spectrum SPF30 coverage. It is fast-absorbing, doesn’t feel greasy at all, and is eco-ethical and cruelty-free. More importantly, if you are heading to the beach, this sunscreen formula is reef-safe and water resistant up to 80 minutes! Kudos to Hawaii for passing legislation to make reef-safe sunscreen mandatory in 2021 and to DERMA-E for playing a significant role with eco-friendly suncare and beauty products.
2. Choose a lotion sunscreen over the
spray version. I know the spray is easier, but it doesn’t cover as completely.
3. Wear lightweight, light-colored
clothing that has a UPF rating.
4. Stay inside, find some shade, and
avoid the peak UV time of 10 AM to 2 PM, if possible.
5. Wear
a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to further protect your face, scalp, and
eyes. It will keep you cooler, too!
Enjoy this time of year and don’t let the sun be your
enemy. The beneficial effects of sun exposure are immense and your body needs
sunlight in the same way it needs essential nutrients to optimize health.
xoxo,
My husband had a skin cancer scare so my hwole family takes precautions in the sun. I would like to try this brand and using a cream instaead of the sprays seems like a better idea.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I'm in Texas, so I always take care when I'm in the sun. Otherwise I burn easily. I'll have to pick up the hydrating mist!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this post. These are great tips. I own both of these products and love them.
ReplyDeleteI just had a kidney stone, so I am drinking my 60-80 ounces of water every day to make sure I don't get another one.
ReplyDeleteOuch! I have heard kidney stones are very painful! That's great that you're drinking plenty of water. I sometimes forget and have to carry a bottle around with me in order to remember to drink.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Love the hat! The sun & heat has driven us indoors for the next few days, but we're looking for some time at the beach very soon. (Rena)
ReplyDeleteHi Rena, We've had a few days that were just too hot to go outside as well. It's been one hot summer so far!
DeleteStay cool! Nancy
It's so important to protect ourselves from the harsh rays of the sun. More and more people that I know are now dealing with skin cancer. It's pretty scary!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know a few people who have had skin cancer as well. Very scary indeed.
DeleteIt's good to stay on top of summer skin care. Sun protection is no joke, and it's good to take preventative measures.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! Thanks for stopping by, Marysa!
DeleteThis is always an important reminder for me. I'm very fair and get really sunburned - and I am really sensitive to the heat. Definitely have to be careful.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie, I'm the same way. I've had heat strokes twice in my life and I have to be careful, too. It's so hard because I love being outdoors on a sunny day.
DeleteIt's almost always hot in here so this is a perfect list for me. I do drink a lot and use some skin products.
ReplyDeleteI love warmer weather so I want to move where you are! Yes, it is very important to drink a lot of water and protect the skin.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!

I am trying to know more about some skin care products. This will be in my list for sure. Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteI hope it helps, Ruth. I love eco-ethical environmentally friendly products. Now that DERMA-E has reef-safe formulas, too, I'm especially happy.
DeleteA hydrating mist sounds wonderful. I have never tried this before but it would be a good thing to keep in my purse for these really hot days here in Iowa. Today it is supposed to be like 100 degrees, this would be nice.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like to put the hydrating mist in my fridge - feels so nice on the skin!
DeleteYikes! 100 degrees! That's crazy hot! :) Stay cool - literally!!!! :)
Staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen are very important especially when the heat is on. I have never tried that sunscreen mist. Sounds great!

ReplyDeleteHi Maggie! Sounds delightfully cool and refreshing!

Great tips! It's been crazy hot around here lately and its been crazy to try to stay cool, hydrated and remember my own sunscreen. I make sure the kids are fully equipped and often forget about myself!
