I am super stoked to have spring in full swing. The kids and I are spending more time outside, enjoying this gorgeous weather. One thing we love to do during summer break is lots of craft projects. Now that the kids are older, they are able to help create our crafts. I was looking for a craft that would make a pretty centerpiece. I am obsessed with mason jars, so painting them and adding my favorite flowers was an inexpensive project we could complete in a few hours. These ombre painted mason jars are so lovely and they cost less than $15 (including the artificial flowers!) You cannot get any better than that, right?!
What you will need:
3 - 5 Wide Mouth Mason Jars
*3 - 5 Acrylic paints in
varying shades from dark to light
1 Can of white spray paint or
primer
Foam brushes
Flowers or greenery of your
choice
Step 1: Spray paint each mason
jar with the white paint or primer. This will allow the acrylic paint to go on
more easily and evenly. Allow to dry at least 30-45 minutes.
Step 2: Using your foam brush,
paint one of the mason jars with the darkest color. Repeat with each mason jar,
with each paint, until you get to the very lightest color. Allow to dry at
least 30-45 minutes before painting your next coat. I paint 2-3 coats total.
*You can also buy a dark paint and then white paint. As you paint your jars
with progressively lighter colors, do so by adding white paint to the dark
paint. The more white paint you add, the lighter the color will get.
Step 3: If you want a more
vintage look, you can take a light grade sandpaper and go over each jar.
Step 4: Add flowers or
greenery and you have a beautiful decorative item, center piece for a table or planter for your favorite herbs or flowers!
