Decorating with books is by far one of the easiest and most affordable ways to add style to your decor. Placing books vertically on a shelf is not the only option for the budget-friendly accoutrement. Arranging the books both upright and stacked on their side, adds visual interest too. Mix in accessories of various shapes, sizes, colors and textures creates excitement that keeps the eye moving.
Add chic objects in silver and gold to deliver an elegant touch to your decor. Grouping items on a tray provides a sense of order and style. Objects come together rather than becoming a catchall for clutter.
Add a pop of color using books with colorful covers piled high and accented with a tiny bouquet of bright flowers.
Books with unflattering covers can still be used in your decor. Add character to the room by facing the spines of the books inward toward the wall (see below). Probably not the fastest way to find your favorite read fast, but it sure does look orderly and clean kept.
In the photo below, books anchor the corner space of the room, while the vase and flowers add visual impact.
Vintage books add warmth and charm when placed in an English garden-inspired birdcage. The books below certainly have a story (or two) to tell.

I'm torn because although I can admit books make great decorations, I feel kind of bad using them for that because books are meant to be read!

I have a bunch of books sitting on a bookshelf. I'm gonna dust them off and display them using some of these great ideas.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your decorating ideas and design inspiration. I have so many books so I too have incorporated it into my decorating scheme; adding framed photos, keepsakes, candles and small floral arrangements. I like your style phrasing; "keeps the eye moving", I think that is important when creating an inviting and comforting flavor to decor.
