Bring in Warm Textures
You want your home to look gorgeous but also be a sanctuary during the cold months. There are easy ways to create warmth with your décor.
● Add Color. Jewel colors, such as royal blue and forest green, in the form of throws or blankets, can be a wonderful way to add tone and luxury to a room. If you need a bit of cheerfulness, opt for brighter colors, such as pink or yellow, or stick to traditional holiday shades of green and red.
● Add Texture. Texture is another important element to create a comforting home. Faux fur and sheepskin blankets or fluffy rugs make you want to cuddle up and feel relaxed the minute you step inside from the cold.
Use The Layering Trend
You’ve heard about layering your clothing in the winter, but this trend also applies to your home décor and furnishings. Covering your chairs with slipcovers is an easy way to bring warmth while also changing the entire look of your room. Patterned and colorful slipcovers are wonderful, especially in the dining room where guests can enjoy them during the festive meals. Best of all, you can remove them in the warmer months or when you feel like changing the color palette of your room.
Another example is to place a smaller rug over a larger carpet. You can play around with different patterns or styles while giving your flooring extra heat.
Dress Up Your Windows
Your windows are the perfect place to achieve all your winter goals: a cozier indoor space and festive décor. Window treatments such as thick drapes instead of the sheer ones you had in summer will help to achieve both goals while making your room look gorgeous! While you’re placing these new window treatments, make sure that you check for any cracks and ensure your windows are sealed properly so that they will block out the cold effectively.
Decorate the Mantel
The mantel is one of the easiest and most striking places in your home where you can bring in some festive décor. This doesn’t have to be a big job, either. All you need to do is bring in some branches and leaves, along with some baubles from the tree, and scatter them across the top of the mantelpiece.
If you want to get a head-start on festive décor by decorating your home for Thanksgiving, your mantelpiece can easily be transformed with some pumpkins and candles. This is elegant and rustic.
Put a Twist on Traditional Décor
You can easily freshen up your home with festive décor without having to be stuck in the traditional way of doing things. For instance, you might not have a wreath for your home, but you could make your own with interesting materials, such as fruit.
All you need to do is get some foam and cut it into a round piece for the base of the wreath, then carefully pin fruits such as oranges and limes onto the foam with the use of florist picks. You can tie ribbons onto the wreath for a lovely finishing touch.

Sweeten Your Table Settings
Ornaments are a big part of the holidays, but they don’t have to be bought from the store. Save money by using what you already have. An idea is to fill jars with fruits and colorful wrapped sweets or plastic greenery, and place these on your Christmas table.
Put Seasonal Cards to Good Use
When you receive cards for the season, you might stack them somewhere and forget about them, which is sad because these cards are usually beautifully decorated. This year, make them form part of your festive decor. Simply take your pretty cards and tie them along the staircase or string them into a DIY garland that can be draped across windows or the mantel.
There are many easy ways in which to make your winter décor more charming this year. With a bit of creativity, your home will be chic and cozy for the holiday season.
I always get pretty Christmas cards from family and friends. Making garland is a great idea!

The stores were packed today with shoppers buying holiday decorations. I picked up a throw for my bedroom, but will be going back for the beautiful burgundy throw. It will really give my family room a pick-me-up for the holidays. Thanks for the idea!
